“When the image is new, the world is new” ~ Gaston Bachelard.
A painting has many layers, beginning at the canvas it bends light and restructures space, drawing the eye of the beholder to the canvas of the mind. My current work explores the visual language of primitive mark making as a form of storytelling. My paintings offer a new narrative to something that is already known, providing an insight into a new space and a new adventure.
I am excited that each of my works has a life unto itself. I see the colour as if it were a community of personalities, coming together (sometimes agreeable, sometimes not) whilst projecting its own unique identity. Each identity seems familiar to us, like someone we should know or someone we could be, unearthing an image of inquisitive allure and holding a salient connection to our intrinsic self.
